Trolley Volunteer

A trolley volunteer is responsible for checking of trolley stock, visiting wards to sell goods to patients on the ward and to reconcile the cash at the end of the shift. If you would like to find out more about this role, please email Volunteers@ydh.nhs.uk

Shop Volunteer information

A hospital shop volunteer will work in the League of Friends shop, using the till, scanning goods and handling cash and cards. They will also assist with checking and pricing of goods and stock rotation. For a more detailed view of what this job entails, please email Volunteers@ydh.nhs.uk for a copy of the job description.

Amulatory Emergency Care

Volunteers will be supporting staff in a variety of roles, such as making drinks for patients, helping with collecting food from the canteen, general tidying of the kitchen, accompanying patients to xray, taking paperwork to relevant deparments, wiping down beds and chairs.

Ward Volunteer

A ward volunteer will support the ward in the morning, by assisting with clearing of breakfast trays, making teas and coffees for patients, refilling linen trolleys, general tidying and escorting patients down to the discharge lounge.

Fundraising Volunteer

 

Fundraising volunteers help on an ad hoc basis at fundraising events such as fun runs, balls or other fundraising events. This can involve weekends and evenings.

Meal Time Companion Volunteer

A meal time companion volunteer will give meal time assistance, supporting the patient, whether that's with just company whilst they eat, or helping them to eat and drink.

 

Patient Voice Volunteer

Patient Voice volunteers help to improve patient, staff and visitors experience of YDH. You will undertake surveys and collect feedback, attend monthly meetings to share the feedback with the Patient Experience team at YDH.

Hospital Gardener

A hospital gardener volunteer will support the hospital gardener with weeding, maintaining the gardens, general tidying and planting when needed

Dementia Activity Volunteer

Volunteers will assist and support staff to improve the lives of people living with dementia, confusion or cognitive impairment. They will be able to spend time with these patients to enhance their stay in hospital as well as enabling them to maintain their physical and mental wellbeing. The volunteers role is about giving the patients some stimulation within the hospital environment, this will include supporting the Dementia Team with group activities and providing one to one interventions (such as the use of puzzles, books, craft activities etc.).

ICU

The role of the volunteer in the Intensive Care Unit is to provide guidance and support to relatives, carers and visitors to the Unit. Volunteers will provide a listening ear and assist in making visits to the Unit warm and friendly

Activity Volunteer - Jasmine Ward

As an activity volunteer, you will be based on the Jasmine Ward. You till be intereacting with patients, playing cards, doing a puzzle, or just having a visit with the patient. Patients on the Jasmine Ward can be living with Dementia.

Below is a list of our current roles available at Musgrove Park Hospital, please indicate which role you would like to apply for.

A Maintenance Volunteer will work with the Estates and Facilities team to put up pictures for the Art for Life team within clinical spaces, support with general duties such as painting and putting shelves up. Experience of working in this area is essential for this volunteer role.
As a Gynae Volunteer, you will be volunteering in the Gynaecology Unit supporting patients who come in for appointments and procedures. The patients may be attending for various reasons; some may receive bad news whilst attending the clinic’s.
A Discharge Lounge volunteer will welcome patients from the wards, provide companionship whilst they wait and help with hot drinks and snacks. 
A Ward Volunteer will act as a befriender/support to patients, relatives and carers. They will help with making beds, providing hot drinks to patients and help with servicing meals.
A Meet and Greet volunteer will assist patients and visitors to the site with their enquiries, you will sign posting or walk with them to the appropriate department. 
A Gardener volunteer will support the Estates and Facilities Team at Musgrove Park to help maintain flower beds, general tidying of garden spaces and help create a beautiful space for patients and staff to enjoy.
As a Discharge Volunteer, you will be supporting the flow of patients moving from the wards to the discharge lounge ready for their transport.
As a Eucharistic Chaplaincy Volunteer you will meet patients, and possibly their relatives and carers, in a ward setting to offer pastoral care and to raise awareness of the chaplaincy service. You will offer spiritual or religious care if directed by the chaplain on duty including prayer and Holy Communion after shadowing a Trust chaplain for the agreed amount of time.
A Fundraising Volunteer will support the hospitals registered charity (Love Musgrove and Somerset NHS Charity) with their fundraising events either on hospital site or at other locations. This role is incredibly varied and can be tailored to your skills, whether that's from holding a bucket in a supermarket, to marshalling at an event, to presenting to a local group about a specific appeal the trust is working on. 
As an Apple FM volunteer you will be playing music and presenting to to individuals in the Taunton area, whilst based at MPH.
A Wellbeing Tea Trolley volunteer will load up the Wellbeing Tea Trolley ready to take around to specific wards and departments the Tea trolley to specific locations and make staff a hot drink during their incredibly busy shifts.
As a Eucharistic Chaplaincy Volunteer you will meet patients, and possibly their relatives and carers, in a ward setting to offer pastoral care and to raise awareness of the chaplaincy service. Gallery volunteers will assist and support staff to set up and take down exhibitions in both the Gallery in Queens Building and the "Wall" in the Councourse.

A volunteer pianist will be available to play a variety of types of music for volunteers in the day room, bringing joy to patients and staff, helping to break up isolation and loneliness.
An Activity Volunteer will help support the Activity Coordinator with the running of activities in the day room, or in hospital bays. They will assist with helping with crafts, refreshing flowers or playing games individually with patients. They will also assist with completing the Friends and Family survey.

A Queensway volunteer will be based in the Discharge Lounge at Yeovil Hospital. They will welcome patients from the wards, provide companionship whilst they wait and help with hot drinks and snacks.
A Ward Volunteer will act as a befriender/support to patients, relatives and carers. They will help with making beds, providing hot drinks to patients and help with servicing meals

A ward Meet and Greet volunteer will be based on the reception desk on the ward. You will answer the phone and let relatives in when they buzz the door. Please note this role is a quiet role and suitable for someone who does not mind periods of waiting. It takes place 4.30pm - 6.30pm
A Bed Maker volunteer will come to the ward to make up stripped beds ready for patients.
A reception Meet and Greet volunteer will support patients coming in to the outpatients service and directing them to the areas of the hospital site that they need to locate.
