Birth Reflection Request

Birth Reflections provides people who have given birth at home or at one of the Somerset Foundation Trust sites the opportunity to talk about their birth experience and explore their feelings and thoughts with a midwife.

Thank you for expressing an interest in our Birth Reflection service

Your birth experience is a unique and personal journey but for some people a reflective discussion of events surrounding labour and birth can help bring some clarity, understanding and hopefully resolve any unanswered questions We suggest waiting a minimum of six weeks after the birth to give yourself time to process what happened - we can offer you an appointment up to a year after the birth, or more if you are currently pregnant or are planning to become pregnant again. Appointments are usually held face to face but can also be over the phone or via video link.

Birth Reflections offers:

  • One to one discussion with an experienced midwife
  • A private and open discussion where you have the opportunity to ask questions
  • The opportunity to review your maternity record

The aims of the service:

  • To help you to explore and understand your experience of labour and birth.
  • To support you to reflect and discuss any issues that your birth experience may have highlighted.
  • To explore the reasons why certain decisions were made during labour and birth
